- ACT-24 is a device for cell washing, Coombs testing with automation and computerised evaluation. So the system is a cell washer and agglutination analyser and the function is not restricted to just the cell washing.
- The instrumentation has been around since 1991 in several transfusion centres indicating acceptance and operational reliability.
- The instrument has the ability in immunohaematological and blood group serological laboratories for centrifugation of tube samples, automatic washing for Coombs testing, automatic portioning of Coombs serum as well as sensitised cells and also computerised presentation of results. The results are automatically printed out, and ready for interpretation.
- The system can handle 24 samples simultaneously and hence very ideal in transfusion centres performing routinely antibody screening, direct-indirect Coombs testing, and identification of irregular antibodies.
- The system can handle every tube method with reliable results with the running cost, most often lower than with existing methods being used.
- The machine automatically portions the Coombs serum to the already washed samples thereby increasing the convenience and offering a high level of automation.

- The system has software for evaluation with the computer, based on photo sedimentation - detection, after the centrifugation and Coombs testing, to prevent subjective errors which can occur with the manual tube method.
- The results are provided in "cross strength" and also printed out automatically, with documentation of curves, a very important aspect for quality assurance purposes.
- The system saves a lot of time since it is highly automatic in comparison with the routine cell washers and also it saves the manpower manifold and removes the subjectivity in interpretation due to evolved software!
- The special type of glass tubes used with the instrument is inexpensive at less than Rs.3 per tube.
- The instrumentation is totally open to reagents from quality source and has the possibility to use locally available reagents or prepared in labs, in house, and in most cases at half the present volumes being used. This results in very low running cost.
Please note that to run the software suitable IBM compatible computer, colour monitor and colour printer
